The central photographic print and the Arabic typography are exceptionally well-preserved, remaining completely sharp, legible, and clear of major stains or fading.
  • Note: The headline at the bottom reads "في سبيل خط سكة الحجاز" ("For the Sake of the Hejaz Railway Line". The descriptive text explains that the photograph captures Emir Said al-Jazairi delivering a speech to a massive crowd inside the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. Following Friday prayers, the crowd marched out in a peaceful demonstration to protest against handing over the administration of the Hejaz Railway line to the French-controlled railway company in Beirut (D.H.P. — Société des Chemins de fer Damas-Hama et Prolongements). This protest reflects a critical moment during the French Mandate era when local Arab leaders and the public strongly resisted the privatization and foreign mandatory control over regional religious and strategic infrastructure like the Hejaz Railway.
